Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which offers videos and blog posts that analyze gender representations in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational and non-profit site that analyzes how females are represented in popular culture narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Furthermore, she seeks to educate people about cyber-bullying targeting women, as well as other marginalized groups of society. The holder of a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaker and she has delivered speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by questions of gender identity as well as feminist theories. While still at school in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency web site. The site was about to launch a series of web-based videos that explored the gender roles in video games at the time she came under the sway of online bullying. The attack did not stop her, however it did strengthen her resolve as feminist media critic. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that investigates the way women are represented in pop cultural narratives.
